Psalms For Young Children

The Psalms describe a whole range of emotions, from joy and wonder to sadness and regret. This collection of Psalms, paraphrased for young readers, uses simple yet powerful imagery to help children express their feelings.

Children's Literature
Colorful stylized pictures of children in various settings accompany the broadly interpreted Psalms in extra large print. Psalm 69 reads: "When I am sad, it feels like I'm underwater�" while the picture shows a girl sitting underwater with monster fishes above her. Psalm 89 says in part: "God, you are so great! I want to tell everyone I know about you." The accompanying picture shows a boy chasing his dog among palm trees. Psalm 108 says: "I want to play music for you on the strings of a harp�" A boy on a magic carpet is shown playing a harp. Psalm 117 says: "Everyone, everywhere, in every country in the world, sing a song to God!" The picture shows children of various ethnic groups holding hands on a steamship. When parents read these to their children, there will be time to talk about fear, guilt, depression, forgiveness and joy. Children will grow to understand that these emotions are universal.
